Putatan elevation to full district
Putatan was declared as a Sabah's 25th district by Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman on 30th April 2001
KOTA KINABALU, May 4, 2011: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Vice President Dullie Haji Marie today said the commercial and economic developments in Putatan district if not all, has been very much due to the participation of private investors.
"With its elevation to a full district, it is expected to see setting up of various government departments and agencies to cater to the needs of the people. There must be proper coordination with the private sector to ensure continued development in the district.
Dullie, who is also SAPP Petagas CLC Chairman, said that at present the district has a population of about 60,000 with a very little facility and structure to support on its collection and delivery systems. The district has been over-relying on direct allocation from the government.
"This was proven just few months ago when some workers in the District Council did not receive their salaries for a consecutive five - month period … the district office must make sure no repeat of such incidence," he stressed.
"Only aggressive and well coordinated plans would be able to ease the problems in the long term. These are among others pertinent problems such as traffic congestion, car parking, road safety, proper town planning and garbage problem which need to be addressed not only by the government but also by some private sectors.
"They people voted the government of the day so physical and spiritual developments are the main responsibility of the government. Thus, development is the right of the people and it is the responsibility of the government to deliver them. The main task of a responsible government is to serve the rakyat and not pre-claiming credits. The world is moving … there is nothing static; and the people's expectation is in tandem with the development around them.
"Hence to make Putatan as a Desapolitan district is most welcome but hope we will not be deluded with such illusions like Vision 2020. There are so many tag lines that we might have forgotten some of them by now.
