Call to improve road and facilities at Danum Valley
A visitor who identified himself as Bahari has urged the relevant authorities to improve the access road and facilities in Danum Valley, which he said is one of the best tourist spots in Sabah.
He claimed that the beautiful nature attraction is run by a tourist organisation under Yayasan Sabah group which seems to be only interested in making money but neglecting their responsibility to provide good services and facilities.
"I have come to understand the company is run by a number of efficient staff both in Kota Kinabalu and Lahad Datu.
"They are able to attract tourists from all over the world to Sabah to visit Danum Valley and they become the 'money earner' for the company.
"What disappoints me and some of the tourists who have visited Danum Valley is the lack of proper facilities, particularly bad road, poor transportation system and no proper medical care," he said.
According to Bahari, medical service is really needed as there were a few cases of tourists who needed medical treatment had to be driven all the way to Lahad Datu through bumpy roads just to get to Lahad Datu Hospital.
"A recent case of a German tourist who fell and broke his leg had to be brought to the hospital, which is located far away from Danum Valley," he said.
"There is nothing that could be done here in the Danum VaIIey as they only have a 'First Aid Kit' to treat minor cuts and injuries. What a shame!
"Despite millions of ringgit collected from the tourists, the management of Danum Valley has failed to employ a doctor to be stationed there.
The management has to Iook into this matter seriously because better inflastructure is really needed to maintain Danum Vailey as a big tourist attraction, he said.
